SHIZUKU Drop
Performance Installation with Takami & Mobu Dance Group
The SHIZUKU Drop series transformed San Francisco performance spaces into shimmering cascades of suspended glass. In collaboration with Takami & Mobu Dance Group, the series took place at the Jon Sims Center for the Performing Arts (2005) and Project Artaud (2006). For the Jon Sims Center performance, the artist was nominated for the Isadora Duncan Dance Award in the Visual Design category.
For SHIZUKU Drop III (2006), a six-day performance at Project Artaud, the artist continuously created and added glass raindrops, filling the space with a crystalline curtain that captured the fleeting moment of rain frozen in mid-fall. Using a torch on site, delicate glass strands trailed from top to bottom, interacting with the dancers’ movements. The sound of the portable torch became part of the performance, influencing and shifting the choreography in real time.
This immersive installation blurred the line between creation and performance, turning the act of making into a dynamic, visual, and kinetic experience.
