Aqueous Series
Aqueous Series explores optical perception through hand-sculpted glass lenses embedded in frosted Plexiglas. Each optically clear lens was individually fabricated by the artist, moving from shaping hot glass to cold-working processes of grinding and polishing.
The series originated during graduate study at the Rhode Island School of Design, beginning with investigations into optical illusion created by water-filled blown glassand evolved into window-based installations, exploring refraction, magnification, and distortion in response to natural light.
Early freestanding installations were shown in galleries in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, and Napa, California.
At the Mare Island studio, the works were developed as window installations and exhibited in several Bay Area galleries and as framed pieces in commercial galleries locally and beyond.
This marked a key shift for the series, moving from gallery window installations to framed works for commercial galleries and finally to permanent public installations.
For a public art project at Lafayette Library and Learning Center, sixteen interactive portholes and three column-mounted pieces were installed on the children’s activity deck, view project →.
The series later expanded internationally, culminating in a permanent public installation at the National Biotechnology Research Park in Taipei, Taiwan, in 2023.
