Waterfall : Ice to clarity

Waterfall: Ice to clarity is a suspended glass installation composed of 1,900 handmade glass droplets suspended from a 40-foot ceiling across 38 vertical stainless-steel cables.

The composition begins at its center with icy, crackle-textured glass and gradually transitions through bubble-filled forms into crystal-clear droplets. The changing textures and transparency suggest the transformation of ice into clear water.

The work was inspired by local waterfalls the artist visited near Chico, including Ravine Falls and Phantom Falls in Oroville. The suspended droplets create the experience of being surrounded by falling water while remaining frozen in space.

The entrance hall faces west, allowing direct afternoon sunlight to enter the space. As the sun moves through the installation, shifting shadows extend across the surrounding walls and floors. Trapped bubbles within the glass droplets and crackle textures on their surfaces catch and transform the afternoon light, revealing subtle prism-like colors through refraction.
